Food Trip at Harbour City HK

I hate going to Harbour City in Hong Kong. Each time I go there I gain about 5 lbs!!! But really it’s one of the best malls in Hong Kong. It seems all the retail brands have a shop there. 

I always start at Ocean Terminal and make my way to the opposite end at Gateway Arcade. Every Christmas Harbour City pulls out all the stop in making the best Christmas display that draws in a big crowd who do the usual picture taking. Last December it was a Disney Christmas which they spent HK$5 million for. 

This was just one of the many character displays. It was so crowded it was almost impossible for me to take a picture without a person flashing a peace sign next to their eyes in front.

Since I just had an unmemorable I went straight to Illy for a coffee treat to make me happy. Little did I know my entire shopping trip at Harbour City made me TOO happy. The drink I ordered was called Half & Half Winter. The base is dark hot chocolate then topped with a shot of espresso and finished with cold coffee foam. A good dessert drink! 

On the same level as Illy (ground floor) I headed straight to Eric Kayser for some of my favorite thick dark chocolate chip cookies and a couple of Croque Monsieur sandwiches for dinner or breakfast the next day. 

 

I was surprised to see that Fauchon opened a branch at Harbour City too. I didn’t buy anything though. 

Sweet House Cha Cha’s matcha ice cream used to be my favorite until I tried the one from Via Tokyo. If you haven’t tried Via Tokyo then this will be good enough for matcha lovers. 

 

New items from Sweet House Cha Cha. 

 

My main objective was Pierre Hermé who’s macarons I tried when I was in Paris a couple of years ago. 

Pierre Hermé in HK doesn’t sell macarons by the piece. They sell it in boxes of 3 (HK$130), 7 (HK$210) and 12 ($330). Getting a box of 3 was the most expensive option but I only wanted to the two new flavors – Chocolate & Foie Gras, White Truffle & Roasted Piedmont Hazelnut Slivers Macarons. Pierre’s macaron fillings are the best. They have the most creative flavors and it tastes the most intense. My only quibble is their too soft almond meringue shell. I like a sturdier and chewier version. 

 

I guess the Danish Bar is a popular item of the Little Mermaid Bakery because they opened an offshoot store right beside their bakery. Personally I’ve never tried it before. 

 

The laminated yeast leavened dough of a Danish pastry was formed into sticks and balls with different fillings. Good idea huh?

 

I bought a sausage Danish bar which was like a waffle dog or corn dog only with a flakier pastry.

 

I also tried the green tea with red bean filling. Yes it was green but it didn’t taste green tea at all.

 

They make the Danish bars on site.

 

My other objective was the matcha goodies from cha-no-wa but I was too full from the coffee, ice cream and bite of sausage Danish bar that I couldn’t even buy anything. Besides my hands were full with all the food I bought. I will definitely make this my first stop on my next trip. 

Jin told me that the matcha soufflé was the best. I can’t wait to try it!! 

 

These are just some of the fascinating food you can find at Harbour City. I have yet to look around their newly renovated food court.
