Harina Artisan Bakery Cafe

Last year I was invited to try out Harina Artisan Bakery Cafe in White Plains. I finally got the chance to go for brunch a few weeks ago.

I used to pass Katipunan Ave. every week day when I went studied in Ateneo. There weren’t any food establishments then. Only plants and garden stores were what I saw while in traffic. Today several restaurants line the busy residential area.

If you blink you’ll miss Harina since their signage was quite small.

This place would be perfect for breakfast meetings since they open at 6:00 am. I can vouch for the food.

They sold many, many flavors of breadsticks.

There were so many things Rochelle and I wanted to try specially their Bloomin’ Bread but we had to choose wisely since we were sure we won’t be able to finish everything

The coffee wasn’t bad at all.

I love the following American bread – biscuits, bagels, cornbread. Good versions of these used to be impossible to find in Manila until L.E.S. Bagels and Kettle came out with the last two respectively. When I saw they had biscuits on the menu I forgot about the Bloomin’ Bread and ordered it right away.

You either like biscuits or you don’t. I love it. I was very pleased with their version which was buttery, crisp on the outside and soft inside. They served it with a side of butter and strawberry jam which I requested be changed to any other flavor. They gave me blueberry jam and it was delicious with the warm biscuits.

We only ate one so we won’t get too full and I took home the other two biscuits for my breakfast the next day. Imagine my deep sadness and disappointment when I found out my dad ate the biscuits which he didn’t even like. Boo hoo he gave it to my dogs!! Que horror!

Look at this beautiful Breakfast Tart made with puff pastry and filled with cream cheese, spinach, tomatoes, bacon and eggs.

A full breakfast in a crisp tart. Freakin’ good!!! It was quite big too. We split it in two and was almost full after eating it. Our only complaint was it could have been warmer.

We noticed the deep yellow egg yolks and asked the waiter what kind of eggs were used thinking it could be organic. The waiter informed us, “Ma’am we used fresh eggs.” Ugghh ok.

I was surprised with the serving size of their food. For only P220 we got two burger sized tuna melt sandwiches. I loved the chewy, crunchy homemade ciabatta used. The sandwich was indeed overstuffed. I just didn’t taste the cheese which wasn’t an issue since the tuna filling was already rich and creamy. We just split one sandwich and took home the other.

The fries were amazingly good. One of the best I’ve eaten in a restaurant. We couldn’t stop munching on them to the point that we almost ignored the sandwich. I kept thinking of the fries even days later.

Rochelle took home an order of Quiche Lorraine which she ate the next day. She said the crust was perfectly flaky but she the quiche was very ‘egg-y’. I guess it was better to eat the quiche in the restaurant.

They need to change the ink of the cash register. 😀

The food in Harina was quite good and the prices were extremely reasonable considering the generous serving size. I will definitely go back for the biscuits and try anything with fries. Oh I have to try their Bloomin’ Bread too.
