Birthday Lunch at Azuthai

Last month my friend Deb celebrated her birthday by treating us to lunch at Azuthai. What was supposed to be just a few hours of get together morphed into 12 hours of non-stop eating, drinking and laughing.

It was a holiday that day that’s why everyone was present. No one was rushing to pick up kids, there were no business calls  or anything that intruded in our day of fun. All we had to do was enjoy the excellent food in one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Manila. I’ve written about Azuthai before and eaten there a few times since and the quality of the food has been consistently good.

Here are our favorite dishes. One day I will try something new but for that meal it was all about Thai comfort food.

I would really have been happy with a bowl of white rice and this Green Chicken Curry which was just a tad too spicy for me but I still loved it.

I was too full to eat a full dessert but I did try each one of these lovely white sweets. I usually go for dark brown desserts but if it’s white and made with coconut then I am all for it.

Here’s the happy celebrant. Was she happy because of the food and company or because she finished another level of Candy Crush?

We moved to Deb’s house for some Estrel’s caramel cake which is her favorite.

Egad, more food! A cheese and chorizo platter from Santi’s was what we nibbled on after lunch.

My jaw dropped when a large pot of crab congee was served around 5 pm. I honestly couldn’t eat a single bite but I had to try it. Darn, it was so umami delicious. At 8 pm Deb said we were all going out for dinner. What??? I really wanted to just stay in her house to eat the crab congee but she wanted to continue her birthday celebration in another restaurant. To be continued…
