Hotel Review: Marco Polo Hotel Ortigas, Manila

I love staying at nice hotels around the world and taking pictures of the rooms since I always do extensive research before I book a room. I seldom get to see hotels in my own hometown in Manila though. After our scrumptious buffet lunch at Cucina we asked to see a room in the new Marco Polo Hotel in Ortigas Center.

The lobby and reception of the hotel is at the 24th floor. The lower floors will be occupied by offices. This is not an uncommon thing and I’ve seen the same arrangement in hotels in Hong Kong, China and the USA.

Here’s the hotel’s blurb from their website

Nestled in the vibrant and growing commercial business district is the first purpose-built 5-star Marco Polo hotel in the Philippines offering discerning guests 316 spacious and well-designed rooms and suites, including two Continental Club floors that accord unrivalled privileges and benefits.

Marco Polo Ortigas Manila is centrally located in Ortigas Commercial Business District between Quezon City, Mandaluyong and Pasig City. Hotel is accessible to organizations such as Asian Development Bank, Meralco, San Miguel Corporation, major Business Process Outsource (BPO) establishments and pharmaceutical companies. Just a short walk from the hotel are shopping and entertainment areas such as SM Megamall, The Podium, Shangri-La Plaza Mall, and Robinson’s Galleria. Minutes from the hotel are places of interest such as Greenhills Centre, Tiendesitas and Eastwood City. Five to seven kilometers away are the CBD areas of Makati, Bonifacio Global City and Eastwood City. International Airport is 15 kilometers away from the hotel.

Adding to Manila’s best dining destinations are four specialty outlets.  Cucina, the all-day dining restaurant that features live show kitchens; Lung Hin, the contemporary Chinese restaurant serving traditional and authentic Cantonese cuisine; Café Pronto, the relaxed and friendly coffee venue; and VU’s, the first of its kind sky bar and lounge located on the topmost 45th floor of the hotel.

Currently only 3 floors are opened to the public and they were all fully booked save for this Supreme King room.

My pictures are in order as I entered the room. First thing that I saw upon entering were two sets of closets flanking this marble topped luggage rack which was right across the bathroom.

The bed is located to the right of the short hallway.

The bathroom wasn’t large but due to good space planning it was able to fit in a fully enclosed shower, water closet and a full sized tub.

I like the small detail of the lighted shower niche for the toiletries. Overhead rain shower and a separate handheld shower seems to be the norm these days with good hotels.

No TV in the bathtub area? In my dreams right? 😀

Closet 1 contained an iron and ironing board while closet 2 contained a flashlight and an extra pillow.

Lovely compact room with a king sized bed. The room didn’t feel small at all because of its minimalist furnishings. No heavy bedside tables or chunky furniture.

Nice to see a universal outlet beside the bed for handy charging of your smartphone and tablet.

Having a Nespresso machine in the room is one of the best perks I look for in a hotel next to free Wi-fi.

No these chocolates aren’t free. You have to pay for them and hopefully the guest will look for the price list before devouring it all like I wanted to. You can get these too at Cafe Pronto on the ground floor of the hotel.

The safe was inside the drawer under the desk. Cool huh?

This looks like an ordinary telephone until all the super features were pointed out to me. You can charge your cellphone using the cable attached to the phone.

There’s a micro usb, older Apple 30 pin and lightning adaptors.

You can even pair your bluetooth device and the phone works as a bluetooth speaker. It also has a built in radio. I want a phone like this in all hotels!!

You can see the speaker on the side as well as a couple of usb slots to charge even more devices.

Here’s the rate for foreign guests and locals who love a good staycation. The local rate is a great deal considering breakfast for 2 at Cucina  costs P2,451 already.

Hope you enjoyed this peak into Marco Polo Hotel’s room. Who knows maybe one day I can make an actual review one day if I ever get to stay here.
