My cousin Sha and her friend Carmela really know all the best places to eat in Virginia and DC.
They brought me to Shirlington, an urban village in Arlington, Virginia. I really liked the way it looked, with red brick roads and so many restaurants side by side.
We went to Carlyle for brunch. Carlyle is part of the Great American Restaurants group. Another one in the group is Coastal Flats which I featured before.
I really liked the ambiance on the second floor.
This was their bread basket. Oh what a bread basket it was! The banana carrot bread and fried doughnut holes were from Best Buns Bread Company next door which was also a part of the Great American Restaurant Group. I wanted to eat it all but I needed to leave room for my meal.
rustic cream of mushroom soup $5.50
Gosh have you ever seen French toast this thick?
BBBC brioche French toast w/ fruits $10
in granola crumbs w/ fresh fruit & drizzled yogurt
Sha our resident carnivore had the steak Benedict.
steak & eggs Benedict $17
filet mignon w/ scrambled or poached eggs & hollandaise
w/ grilled brioche
Carmela had a more traditional breakfast.
BBBC brioche French toast $13
smoked bacon, scrambled eggs & home fries
At first I was hesitant to order crab cakes again since I just had it for dinner the night before. But how can I resist crab cakes Benedict on a biscuit? Just the word biscuit on the menu sold this for me.
sauteed jumbo lump crab cakes $19.95
scrambled or poached eggs & hollandaise w/ BBBC biscuits
I specifically ordered my poached eggs to be runny. OMG let me tell you this was one of the best meals I had in my trip. The combination of fresh lump crab cakes with crisp, light biscuits, runny eggs and creamy hollandaise sauce was too die for. It was rich yet not too heavy like Sha’s steak. I managed to finish one only. Sha took home the other one for her lunch the next day and now she’s also a crab cake Benedict convert.
When I go back to Virginia this will be one of my first stops!
