Baked and Wired

My real destination in Georgetown was Baked and Wired. It took me a while to find it with only a picture from google map on my iPhone to guide me. But the lure of coffee and cookies made me even more determined to find the place.

I finally found the place tucked along a street lined with beautiful and expensive homes.

The shop was divided into a ‘baked bar’ and the wired side which housed the coffee bar.

They had a really unique and gorgeous way of showing off their wide variety of cupcakes, cookies, bars and biscotti.

Glass beakers never held more precious commodities than these cupcakes.

biscotti anyone?

Since cupcakes don’t hold much temptation for me I was more drawn to the cookies in the big glass jars. I really wanted to buy this double chocolate cookie but I didn’t like my cookies with filling. Yes I’m one of those weirdos who eats an Oreo without the filling. I scrape off the filling and give it to my fat appreciative dog.

I did buy a peanut butter cookie with chocolate filling for my cousin-in-law Chee since he loves peanut butter as much as I do. And boy, did he like this cookie.

Since I just love Fig Newtons I couldn’t resist buying a couple of these phig newtons. Their web site described these as –  whole dates that have been cooked down with sugar, lemon juice, and spices to make yummy goo that is sandwiched in layers of homemade cookie crust. Hmm, I thought Fig Newtons were made with figs?

After buying my baked goodies I went to the other side of the store for coffee. I passed by this display of dog treats they call zilla bones. Kudos to Baked and Wired for not neglecting man’s best friend.

They sold coffee made from  Stumptown Coffee Roasters and Intelligentsia Coffee, two roasters whose coffee I’ve also wanted to try.

This was the only place where they had coffee beans for you to smell before ordering.

All the fans of Baked and Wired show their love with notes on napkins.

I forgot which coffee beans I chose for my drip coffee but whatever it was I was satisfied and happy with it. It was a good reward for a whole day’s worth of walking.

The phig newton was just ok for me. I wanted it gooier and to be honest I expected it to be a whole lot better than the commercial fig newton but sadly it wasn’t. Could it be due to the dates used instead of figs?

Next to chocolate or peanut butter my favorite desserts are anything with apples. I’m forever on a quest to find the best apple pie.

I liked the apple caramel bar much better. The apple chunks were crunchy and the buttery caramel provided just enough sweetness to contrast with the tart apples. The oatmeal crust couldn’t have been a better base with it’s crunch and added health benefit.

Granny Smith apples and gobs of homemade caramel on a brown sugar oatmeal crust, topped with more oatmeal crunch.

A cup of coffee and 2 pastries were my brunch for the day. I didn’t eat any real food because I was meeting my two cousins for afternoon tea later in the day. It was enough to tide me over until more carbs. What a wonderful ‘diet-breaking’ day so far.

  1. I see you like peanut butter and chocolate type cookies.  I also so much that I use to have a cookie business in high school.  Made all kind of cookies.  Best seller peanut butter, my own recipe moist chocolate chip ones .  I love apple pie but made apple tart with cheese on top another thing I like.  It old English custom to have cheese with apple pie.
