A few months ago Rochelle and I went to lodge our application for our visa to New Zealand and it was too late for her to go back to the office to get her car so we both went to pick up her son from school. As an apology for being late plus we were all hungry we went to Early Bird Breakfast Club to have merienda.
I’ve read some negative reviews about Early Bird but I really enjoyed my first meal there that’s why I was eager to go back and try new dishes. I guess it’s either timing or what you order that makes a difference. The first two dishes I’ve already tried before and you can read my review here.

Rochelle ordered the croque monsieur which I hoped was better than Wildflour’s version which I wasn’t too happy with.

There was plenty of delicious cheesy mornay sauce but the bread was way too thick and it overwhelmed the measly filling. It was really unfortunate because the sauce was really good and the sandwich would have been excellent with a thinner cut of bread.
Just look at the super thin slice of ham.
I ordered the dish that I really wanted to order on my first visit. The dish that I felt guilty ordering because of the rice. Well I’m well past that guilt and I was the happiest that day. The chorizo and mushroom risotto has to be the best dish on their menu. The rice was cooked just the way I liked it. Not too al dente yet not mushy soft. The saltiness from the Parmigiano Reggiano cut the creaminess of the risotto which was studded with onions, fresh mushroom and lots and lots of sliced smokey chorizo.

I’ve never seen so much chorizo in a dish. The ratio of rice to chorizo must have been 50:50!!! Rochelle and I loved it so much we abandoned her croque monsieur and finished the risotto until the plate was shining white. You MUST order this!! Even if you’ve had a bad experience with this restaurant you have to go back and try this risotto. Rochelle and I are planning to go back just for risotto and coffee soon.

The croque monsiuer was nicely packed in a plastic container with cutlery tucked under a cardboard handle.
I was so full with my merienda (snack) that I skipped dinner and just reminisced about the risotto.
