Birthday Dinner Preview
It usually takes me at least 2 days to prepare for my birthday dinner. I only cook this much once a year because it’s too stressful for me. Well twice a year, one night is for HS friends and another night is for college friends. It’s a good thing my friends are very forgiving about the food.

Lunch at Golden Bay Restaurant
Last Sunday we tried out the newest Chinese restaurant in town. We heard the huge restaurant was built by investors from China to a tune of P350M.
This was our room. The room where we stayed for 4 hours last Sunday. Yes it took us 4 hours to finish lunch. The kitchen was in chaos and it took a very long time for the food to come out. Sometimes up to half an hour in between courses. Thank goodness the food more than made up for the bad service.

What’s for Merienda?
As usual some kind souls brought merienda or afternoon snack for the tired dancers. There was no plan on who will bring what. So I was very impressed with the food they brought. The white plastic bag on the left is a giant bag of chicharon (pork rind) that Florence brought.
Someone brought these yummy brown puto. I wasn’t able to try it but I heard raves about it.

Lunch at Asian Twist Fusion Restaurant
The huge twist sign really catches your attention. I just went to Chinese General Hospital in the 1st week of September and I passed NS Amoranto (Retiro St.) and I didn’t notice this restaurant. I guess if you’re paying attention you still won’t see it.
The restaurant looks like a house that was converted to a restaurant. I liked the clean and simple decor. It was very youthful.
There’s was a cake display and several kinds of bread and bars at the entrance.

What do you bring to a potluck?
We had another HS homecoming meeting and 17 confirmed to attend. The food for the meeting was potluck and these are what my friends brought.

Deb bought this amazing, fantabulous deli platter from Santi’s. It contained prosciutto, chorizo, gouda, emmenthal and 2 kinds of salami. This platter lasted until after dinner. We picked our way through most of it with some melon, wine and lots of laughter.
Debbie ordered this lumpiang ubod from her office canteen.
Janet made this chap chae from scratch. It was restaurant quality indeed! She used US sirloin sukiyaki with the Korean noodles. It was soooo good. We are expecting more from Janet in the upcoming meetings.
Jennie brought this Red Rice Salad from Dulcelin. On the web site the description for this is “A Korean style paella with seared tuna slices, shrimp and shredded lettuce” It costs P1,600 and is good for 10 to 12 persons. The rice tastes like it had mayonnaise in it. The seared tuna was perfect with the rice and lettuce. The dish was mildly spicy and very creamy. It was a unique dish that I don’t mind eating again and again. Paging Jennie!
