After our lunch at Motorino I suggested we check out the newest coffee place in Rockwell called Refinery.
Refinery is not an ordinary 3rd wave coffee place. For such a small space Refinery wears many hats and ambitiously so. They serve breakfast, brunch, coffee and at night cocktails and wine. They want to be the all-in-one hang out place in Rockwell.
I spot the drip cones, syphon, Chemex but I didn’t see the Sowden SoftBrew which I wanted to see and try because I’ve been thinking about buying one for a long time now. I wonder if this area was where they really made all their coffee since it was quite crowded beside the cash register and the desserts.
They also had La Mill Coffee and various Hario merchandise for sale.
If you’re a serious coffee hobbyist then everything you need to make good coffee at home can be bought at Refinery.
It was the peak of summer and none of us could bear to order hot drinks. Everyone was quite happy with their drinks.

If you like your grilled cheese mild, gooey with hints of honey and basil in soft pillowy bread then you will love this. Debbie and I decided we wanted a firmer country style bread with sharper cheese but then that was just us. The tomato soup and side salad were nice.

If you want something truly sinful then try the thick toast topped with fontina and mozzarella cheese, 2 egg yolks in the center and a drizzle of truffle oil. You must eat this as soon as it is served and don’t wait for people to take pictures or the cheese and egg yolks will harden up.

I liked my iced Valrhona mocha which tasted more chocolate than coffee but that’s not a bad thing right?

The only dish that disappointed me was Refinery Bread Pudding P220 that didn’t resemble any bread pudding I’ve ever eaten. They should improve it or change the name to a more appropriate French Toast Cubes.

They were still in soft opening stages when I went there. I wish they would have more sweet treats and dessert in the future. I still have to try their coffee and any one of their tempting cocktails. Having a simple food menu means they’re serious about their drinks and rightfully so.

Wow. More than the Refinery, your mention of Sowden made me Google it and it looks like an interesting device. Please post an update if you find it available anywhere locally. I’d love to purchase one!

I haven’t seen it for sale anywhere in Manila but it’s in my Amazon wish list. 😀 If I do I’ll post it here.

This is in my to-visit list since early June. I’m curious about their coffee. Another 3rd wave.
