I’ve never eaten at Wee Nam Kee in Singapore but I think they only sell chicken and a few other dishes. In Manila they have a full menu of delicious food. It’s been a while since my last visit to their beautiful Glorietta branch and the owner Linfred told me they had new dishes so I went for lunch with my Tuesday eating group.
I hit the jackpot with my first order of Prawn Paste Chicken Wings P218. The wings arrived in our table piping hot and it was unbelievably crispy. You could really hear the crunch! I didn’t bother with the sauce since it was already well seasoned. I just wish they would amp up the prawn paste for a more fragrant dish.
Any time I see fried tilapia in a restaurant’s menu I order it. I have a thing for fried fish. This one didn’t disappoint specially with the Singapore “chili crab” sauce on the side. I don’t like fried fish immersed in sauce since it loses its crispiness faster. The sauce wasn’t really spicy since Pat and I had low tolerance for heat. You can tell them the heat level you like.
The Cashew Coffee Ribs P298 caught my attention since I love anything with coffee and I was curious how it would taste with ribs. Unfortunately I barely tasted any coffee flavor since the ribs were mostly sweet. This dish reminded me of sweet and sour pork so if you like sweet meat then you will enjoy this. I think kids will like this.
You must know by now I don’t eat white rice so I ordered Pineapple Fried Rice with Pork Floss P250 and it was ok. My friends liked it more than I did.
We always order Sambal Kang Kong P210 in Wee Nam Kee and other Singaporean/Malaysian restaurants.
Naturally we had to order the Steamed Hainanese Yellow Chicken P848 which was still as moist and juicy as ever. The medium was just right for the five of us to finish.
This white rice is my kryptonite. It’s the only white rice I will eat and LOVE. What makes it so different? It’s cooked with chicken fat and spices that’s why it’s so flavorful and I can actually eat it by itself but of course it’s best eaten with Hainanese chicken.
I found the Green Tea Vanilla Freeze P130 lacking in green tea flavor but maybe others will like it as is.
We spent P500 per person and we were very full and satisfied.
